crazy days.

Just got back from Madrid this morning, got 4ish hours of sleep in a real bed before heading to class. Was productive during class (e.g. catching up on emails and facebook and xiaonei and stuff instead of listening) and actually efficient meeting after class, grocery shopping and cooked good food, unpacked and cleaned room, skyped and finished a case. so here i am. rewarding myself for productiveness =]

Crazy days coming up. class tmr 6-9pm, then 11pm bus to Sitges for Carnaval, party all night, bus back at 6am, get home at 7-ish? leave home at 8 for class at 9am. Then hellish day from 9 - 9pm. and then home... pack... head to the station around 2am to bus to Girona at 3am and get on the flight to Madrid at 6am.... O.O but THENNNN, I get to see Cari! and begin our Eurotrip! ... I just have no idea how I'm going to make it through to then. LOL.

So yes... 20 passed by quite uneventfully. dear Mo managed to be first with an email a day early. lol. my roommate + bf surprised me with a mini cake the day before. much love =). My bus for Madrid departed at 11:59pm. at 00:05 (I know cuz there's a big clock at front of bus), the lil girl sitting in the seat in front of me, 5 or 6 years old, started humming "happy birthday" to herself. I don't think it was even in English. but it made me happy. LOL. I don't think she finished the song before she fell asleep. but still =). Catherine got me a souvenir from Portugal without knowing. I made my wish on a 2 Euro cent coin at a fountain in a castle in Segovia. I bought myself a piece of cake in a local bakery. andddd I managed to make it to the pub crawl a couple of minutes before midnight, and then somehow, miraculously, made it back to the hostel in crazy heels and way beyond tipsy. I actually do not remember how I got into the room. But I do remember asking in Spanish where my street was. LOL. and today. my mom forwarded me an email from Beijing grandparents. sending wishes. O.O. ... I raised an eyebrow and laughed to myself. This must be the first time in over 10 years this has happened. I am impressed. haha.
So yes. Nothing was missed, I had it all =]

Thanks to all those that remembered. all those that saw newsfeed. those who were reminded. It made my day later when I finally had access to internet =). on the other hand... it's what? the third yr w/o a single word from you? lol it's all good. I'm thinking of being cliche and throwing a half bday party when everyone's back in Toronto, sound good?

me go get some slp before I begin the next few days of maaaaaaaadness. =]

someone to come home to.

ahhhh.... did i mention that my one of my roommates' bf flew to barcelona from toronto a day after her birthday and they went to Paris for Valentine's day weekend. and he's now staying here with her for a week until Sunday. so yes. Wednesday is hell for us. class from 9 to 9. >.< and all day she's been saying that she can't wait to go home. =P. lol. so we got home, finally, at around 10pm... and as soon as we get in the door, there he was. all the food prepped and ready to cook as soon as she got home (he didn´t want it to get cold waiting for her).

it was such a small thing. i guess it´s not really that small, but still.
i was just thinking... i guess that´s what anyone ever wanted you know?
after a long and hard day...

just someone to come home to.

Barcelona Living - #1

Fact: I have a tonnnnn of work to do for school, and I've been trying soooo hard to get started. I just get distracted with other stuff. lol. and blogging has been on my to-do list for a LONG time. so let's get this done. =P. I know I promised a Switzerland post, but let's postpone that til Thursday when I'll actually have time to upload pictures too =P.

So yes. It's weird. This is my 17th day here. but it seriously feels as though I have been here since forever, at least a couple of months. I guess changing locations and travelling does that to people. In that case, I guess there's really no reason for me to be missed. =P, afterall, I haven't really been gone that long. but to me, it does feel like half a lifetime. o.O. weird.

Let's talk food.
OMG. eating in Barcelona / Europe has become SUCH a pain. I haven't cooked for over six months. and was mad spoiled in Beijing with amazing Chinese food in the cheap cheap caf and well yeah, elsewhere too. =P. lol. and CHONGQING before I left China was amazing too. I'm so glad I got a decent amount of delicious spicy food before this period of 16 days without spicy food. O.O. BUTTTTTTT! Yesterday. I journeyed an hour and a half from school to get to the Chinese grocery store! (HEAVEN). lmao. I can't believe I actually found real food. =D.

lol.. lol. lol. lol)

LOL.

p.s. happy belated valentine's day! =P

falling in love.

mannn this is the last thing on my to-do list but i feel like i'll never get to it if i don't do it now =p.

So... i miraculously arrived in Barcelona, totally unprepared and lost and had no idea what in the world was going on. but somehow, managed to call Stephanie (after the phone ate 4 Euros and then cost altogether about 8 euros) and subwayed my way from the airport to their house with one 32kg luggage, a 25kg carry on, a backpack and another bag. i'm grateful for all the random nice people who took pity on me and decided to help me on my way up and down these CRAZY barcelona subways that DOESN"T have ESCALATORS. like... WHAT? o.O. lol. anyway. coudln't believe how few people spoke english here and how little i understand spoken spanish. *mad wails* so as soon as I found Steph and heard English.... and they still had a free room, I decided to move in with them. =D. LOL. So glad they took me in. Apparently Steph remembers me from "good comments" that I made back in a first year class that we had together. LOL.

So where we live is quite a bit out of the way of central barcelona, but it's SO convenient anyway. I LOVE this lil place (once I actually got brave enough to venture out a lil bit). It's like a lil town hidden away in a corner of Barcelona with a lot of old people. lol. and it's on top of this huuuuge hill that overlooks the city. it's AMAZING. i love the quaint lil streets and small shops and ahhhhh just the atmosphere of it all. Clear blue skies are SOOOOOOOOOOOO beautiful against the Spanish red roofs. love love love. Europe is SO different from China and Canada and I'm starting to love it more everyday =D. I don't even mind being far from central barcelona, it's nice and comfy and i'm happy =].

also loving the housing situation. again i have a small and crappy room with a "loft" single bed on top of the wardrobe. but i really dont' mind it. i'm just glad to have a roof over my head and relatively inexpensively =) flatmates are also amazing. perfect balance of frienship and privacy, and nicest people in the world. very very very happy =D. I'm SO glad I found them =)

Getting to school. so apparently.... i hadn't been checking my ESADE email for the past term that I was in beijing cuz... obviously... no one reminded me. LOL. so i completely missed out on orientation and an intensive 2 week spanish course -_-. everyone already knows each other so i'm a lil out of the loop and behind on meeting people. but it's all good. i'll survive and i'll get to know ppl soon enuff =). ESADE's new campus is 25 minutes train ride outside of barcelona and then another 15 min walk from the train station, so it takes most ppl about an hour to get to school. but i don't mind it. i love the train ride out, and how it give a view of Barcelona's suburbs/countryside (i'm not quite sure which yet), and it's beautiful. I've also been wandering around the lil town of Sant Cugat, and love the small town feel around campus. The campus itself consists currently, of one building that is... 95% complete and another that is... 70% complete? lol. apparently desks were put into classrooms the Sunday before classes started on Monday, and there's still final touch ups everywhere. it's also uber high security, we get these electronic student cards to get in and out of the building and caf and even classrooms. it's insanely high tech and really? ... completely unnecessary -_-". classes r classes. i think i enjoy the ride to school more =P

Spanish culture is mad strange. there's siesta between 2 - 5pm so all the shops are closed o.O. and then dinner BEGINS at 9pm at the earliest. like.... say what? but all the shops close at 10pm leatest -_-" but i managed to go grocery shoopping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =D the closest mini-grocery store is a minute walk from our house =) and WINE is cheaper or about the same price as milk and juice. LOL. all other alcohol seem relatively inexpensive as well. no wonder everyone drinks all the time. haha.

i'm loving this time on my own to just... explore and get to know the place a lil. i've yet to see central barcelona//where all the tourists are and all the famous things r, at least not above ground, lol, but i'm saving that for 2 weeks later when Cat comes to visit and later when Cari comes =D.

this weekend: Switzerland - Geneva & Interlaken =)
we're DRIVING from Geneva to Interlaken. it's going to be absolutely insane. looking forward to it.

things are good. better than good. things are amazing and better than i imagined possible really =].

so it's true. i have to admit it.

... i am falling in love with this place. =)

See you soon =)

So I'm going to attempt to catch up before I fall too far behind so much that I lose the motivation to ever catch up again.

The last couple of days in Chongqing finally started feeling like it was actually New Years. =) Cousin and aunt and uncle and great aunt came down from Chengdu to visit. Great aunts and uncles came to play mahjong with grandpa =D. More fireworks and firecrackers, singing K with the cousins. More people all being together and ... temporarily and superficially, restoring the glory to the villa, and the family, that once was.

Leaving grandpa was harder than I ever expected it to be. Mom and I were both.... and I must say, have kind of rather been looking forward to leaving, but surprisingly, Chongqing turned out to be the most emotional goodbye this past half a year. lol.

on a happier note. BACK TO BEIJING =DDDDDDDDDDd

lol...

back to beijing was amazing. there's a tradition that on the 5th day of the new year you're supposed to eat dumplings. So the last time I met up with elementary school friends, we made plans to meet up and make dumplings =D. I arrive at 2am the day of, and find out we're meeting at 8:30am o.O. [oh. cuz i lost my cell phone. AGAIN btw] .... I message that I'll be late and meet up with them later. In the morning, I suddenly find out the place we're going to... is an hour away from Beijing. LOL. apparently, due to space constraints, the only family we could find that would host our party of 10+ on a day that you're usually supposed to spend//dine with family. lol. anyway. it was worth every minute of travelling, worth every time my grandma told me how long they had all been waiting for me, whatever. I love meeting up with elementary school friends, and I love how we can still get together like this so long after and still all have such a great time together. heart heart heart.

Finished packing at night and went back to the hotel. fireworks were going crazy in Beijing. mannnn. beijing fireworks r so much better than Chongqing. some how. some reason. they were higher and bigger and more complex and diverse and everything. hehe =D. when we were back at the hotel, the hotel was letting off fireworks that were RIGHT in front of our window. amazinggggg view =DDDDDDDDDDD.

Last day in Beijing was spectacular. finally got to goto miao hui =D. ate so much amazing food too. walked more than half of inner beijing. LOL. from way past wangfujing back to my elementary school. passed one of the places where I grew up. jing shan park. the forbidden city. bei hai. my mom's hospital... and on the way, bumped into one of my mom's ex-co-workers on the street... like... WHAT? o.O. LOL. and the lady remembers me as a 8-yr-old and was surprised I had grown. LOL. this day trip in beijing was the perfect conclusion to my 5 months in beijing and coudln't have asked for more =).

This term in Beijing was... amazing on too many levels. Being in Beijing was one thing. but the people that I have met. the people I have gotten to know better. the places we have gone. the things we have done. the crazy nights we don't remember. and all the unforgettable memories that we have created... I am so grateful for all that has happened and everyone that was a part of it all. thank you.

and it's not farewell nor goodbye.

i'll see you again. soon. =)

[will add pics soon. ppl coming over. gotta go. ]
